Sources: Howe to block Newcastle sales after ‘massive’ development
Eddie Howe is keen to keep his Newcastle United squad together in the January transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.
A well-placed source has told Football Insider that potential sales could boost the Magpies’ transfer kitty as next month’s window approaches.
Football Insider revealed on Friday (15 December) that Newcastle can only make loan signings in the winter window due to Financial Fair Play restrictions.
Howe will not see his January transfer plans change despite dropping out of the Champions League – with a central midfielder and centre-back on the shortlist.
Selling players could give the Newcastle boss more money to play with in the market – but it is believed he is unwilling to part with any key members of his squad.
The Magpies are in the midst of a massive injury crisis at present, with the likes of Harvey Barnes, Sven Botman, Dan Burn, Nick Pope and Joe Willock among the stars currently on the treatment table.
Those problems mean a radical overhaul of the playing squad is not on the cards in the January window.
One fringe Newcastle star wanted by Premier League rivals is winger Jacob Murphy.
Football Insider revealed last month (27 November) that Murphy is attracting interest from Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest ahead of the January transfer window.
Meanwhile, decisions will have to be made on the futures of Jamaal Lascelles, Fabian Schar, Matt Richie and more – who are all out of contract at the end of this season.
Newcastle sit seventh in the Premier League ahead of their clash with Fulham on Saturday (16 December).
