Sources: Jess Thorup in contention to be next Sheffield Wednesday manager
Former FC Copenhagen boss Jess Thorup has emerged as a contender for the vacant Sheffield Wednesday manager’s job, sources have told Football Insider.
The 53-year-old, who has been out of work since leaving FC Copenhagen in September, has been added to Wednesday’s shortlist of candidates.
The Yorkshire side are currently searching for a new manager following the shock exit of Darren Moore.
Moore departed Hillsborough in June after spending two years in charge of the club and leading them to promotion to the Championship via the playoffs in 2022-23.
Wednesday are currently in the process of appointing a new manager and have been in contact with a number of candidates, including former Aston Villa boss Dean Smith.
Football Insider revealed on Tuesday (27 June) that Sheffield Wednesday opened talks with Smith over the vacancy.
Thorup is also in the running for the job having built up his reputation in Denmark as a title-winning manager.
After starting his managerial career at Danish side Esbjerg, Thorup then joined the Danish national team to coach the Under-20s and Under-21s.
Thorup then joined Midtjylland in 2015 and spent three years in charge of the side, winning the Danish Superliga in 2017-18.

Following three years in Belgium in charge of Gent and Genk, Thorup returned to Denmark with FC Copenhagen in 2020 and won a second league title in 2021/22.
Thorup left the club in September 2022 following a poor start to the league campaign, but ended his time at Copenhagen with a 55.68 per cent win rate after taking charge of 88 games.
