Sources: Joe Willock edges closer to Newcastle transfer as Premier League duo lurk
Joe Willock could push to leave Newcastle United in the remainder of the January transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.
The 26-year-old has started just two Premier League games all season, and it is understood that Eddie Howe currently views him as the fifth-choice midfielder at St James’ Park.
Football Insider revealed in November that Willock is open to leaving Newcastle in January, and sources have indicated that he is now keen to get away from Tyneside for the second half of the season.
The former Arsenal star is attracting interest from both Leeds United and Crystal Palace at the moment, while Newcastle may be willing to sanction a move if they feel they have enough injury cover come the latter stages of the window.

Joe Willock unlikely to see playing time boosted at Newcastle
Newcastle fans ripped into Willock for his performance in their FA Cup victory over Bournemouth last weekend, in what was just his third start since the beginning of December.
The midfielder has been relegated to largely cup minutes alone by Howe so far in 2025-26, and there are few signs of that changing any time soon.
The Magpies are currently in the midst of a drastic injury crisis, but most of their issues have come in the backline or in the wide areas.
Willock finds himself firmly below the trio of Bruno Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali and Joelinton in the midfield ranks, while Lewis Miley has taken on an increasingly big role for the North East side this term.
There is little sign of Willock forcing his way into the starting XI in league action any time soon, and with Miley beginning to show signs of serious progress, the door will only continue to close on him in the coming months.

As a result, a move away this winter could potentially do him the world of good as he bids to get his career back on track elsewhere in the top flight.
Wolves show their hand amid Newcastle interest in Mateus Mane
Football Insider recently revealed that Wolves intend to build their team around Mateus Mane, in order to ward off interest in the starlet from elsewhere.
The 18-year-old starlet has emerged as one of the shining lights for the Premier League’s bottom club, and they remain adamant that he will not leave in the January window, with his contract set to run until 2029.
Newcastle have sent scouts to watch the England youth international on several occasions since his senior debut for Wolves back in December, but look set to see any attempts to reach a deal thwarted.
Mane has two goals and one assist from 10 Premier League appearances so far this term, and Newcastle will likely need to be patient if they are to secure his signature.
The Magpies have the attacking midfielder firmly on their radar, and Wolves’ imminent relegation could provide them with the perfect chance to strike in the summer.
