Sources: Jorge Mendes brokering Leeds attacker transfer after Bielsa green light

Super agent Jorge Mendes is brokering the potential transfer of Leeds United attacker Helder Costa, Football Insider understands.

The world’s most powerful transfer facilitator is investigating potential new clubs for the winger, 27, amid doubts over his Elland Road future.

A Leeds source has told Football Insider that Costa is expected to leave the club if they are successful in recruiting a senior attacker before the window shuts next month.

Marcelo Bielsa has given the green light for the £15million signing from Wolves to leave if a replacement is secured.

Among the top targets are Club Brugge’s Noa Lang and preliminary talks have been held over a deal.

Mendes believes the Spanish top flight would be ideal for Costa, who made his name at Benfica in his native Portugal before a short spell at Monaco was followed by a lengthy one in England.

Valencia have been mooted as a club who could take the Portugal international this summer.

Mendes has strong links with the La Liga club and has brokered many transfers there in recent years.

Among his current clients at Valencia are Wolves target Goncalo Guedes and Thierry Correia.

Leeds are willing to listen to offers for Costa, and there is also the expectation he will push to leave if they succeed in signing a senior wide player.

There is the possibility he could leave on loan, or a loan-to-buy, just as he did when initially signing from Wolves in the summer of 2019.

Like recent loan departure Kiko Casilla, Costa is a big earner and his departure would enable Leeds to trim costs.
