Sources: Josh McPake arrives at Dunfermline after Rangers contract terminated

Former Rangers winger Josh McPake has arrived to undergo a trial at Scottish Championship side Dunfermline, sources have told Football Insider.

McPake, 22, has been without a club since leaving Rangers in September last year.

He has had spells training with Forest Green Rovers, Greenock Morton and Hamilton Academical without being offered a deal.

Middlesbrough Under-21 attacker Isaac Fletcher and free agent Joe Cardle are also training with Dunfermline and played in a bounce game earlier this week.

McPake played twice this term before his Rangers exit- making two appearances in the Scottish League Challenge Cup and notching the winner against Stenhousemuir.

The youngster’s sole senior appearance for the Ibrox club came under Steven Gerrard in the 2019-20 season, when he came off the bench in a 6-0 European qualifier win over St Joseph’s FC.

Football Insider revealed as early as March 2023 that Rangers were considering terminating his deal after fining him for off-pitch issues – and the Gers eventually parted ways with the winger later that year after a string of disciplinary issues.

McPake has notched 96 total senior competitive appearances during his career so far, scoring nine goals.

The ex-Scotland Under-21 star had loan spells at Tranmere Rovers, Queen’s Park, Morecambe, Harrogate Town and more during his time at Rangers.

Boro youngster Fletcher, 21, is a regular scorer at youth level but has managed just 18 senior games to date, scoring once.

Cardle, 36, racked up 243 games for Dunfermline in two separate spells – scoring 54 goals.

The Pars sit seventh in the Scottish Championship but are without a win in their last five league games.
