Sources: Leeds handed Hakan Calhanoglu boost as he tells agent to explore move

Leeds United are keeping tabs on Inter Milan midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu ahead of the summer, sources have told Football Insider.

The 29-year-old is out of contract in the summer of 2024 and could be sold in the next window to avoid him leaving on a free next year.

Leeds are in contact with Calhanoglu’s agent and have registered their interest in a potential deal if he is made available.

Southampton have also been linked with the 74-times Turkey international as they also look to strengthen their midfield.

For both clubs, who are locked in battles for Premier League survival, any potential deal will depend upon avoiding relegation.

Calhanoglu is a top-tier talent who is proven at international and in the Champions League, as well as in Serie A and the Bundesliga.

He is believed to be keen on a move to the Premier League this summer and has instructed his agents to explore the viability of a move.

Inter are strapped for cash and beset by financial problems, with a fire sale of top stars expected in the summer.

That opens the door for the cash-rich Premier League clubs, who can exploit their greater wealth.

The former AC Milan and Bayer Leverkusen star has an outstanding scoring and creating record from midfield for all his clubs as well as for his country.

He is now in his second season for Inter, since joining from bitter rivals Milan on a free, and his 78 appearances for the club have yielded 11 goals and 19 assists.
