Sources: Leeds United agree deal in principle for ‘incredible’ Darlow

Leeds United have agreed a deal in principle for Newcastle United goalkeeper Karl Darlow, sources have told Football Insider.

It is believed the 32-year-old will join the Yorkshire giants on a permanent basis.

Leeds hope to wrap up the arrival of Darlow by the end of the week with the new Championship season set to get underway on 4 August.

Addressing a possible exit for the shot-stopper (as quoted by Chronicle Live, 26 July), Newcastle boss Eddie Howe insisted the “incredible servant” will “certainly go with our best wishes” this summer.

He claimed a deal could materialise “in the next few days” – and the breakthrough in negotiations has been found with Leeds set to land Darlow.

His contract at St James’ Park is not set to expire until June 2025.

Darlow spent the second half of the 2022-23 campaign on loan at Hull City, keeping five clean sheets in 12 outings for the Tigers.

The Northampton-born star has racked up 100 total appearances for Newcastle, with 52 of those outings coming in the Premier League.

Leeds have moved to add Darlow to their squad after Joel Robles departed at the end of his contract last month.

Football Insider also revealed earlier this summer (25 June) that the Whites are willing to listen to offers of around £30million for goalkeeper Illan Meslier.

Darlow is set to become Daniel Farke’s second official signing, with Ethan Ampadu already joining the ranks from Chelsea this month.

Football Insider revealed on Tuesday (25 July) that Rangers star Glen Kamara is closing in on a £5million move to Leeds despite competition from 10 other Championship sides.
