Sources: Leeds United promotion will trigger £15m blow
Leeds United will have to pay out around £15million in bonuses if they win promotion back to the Premier League this season, sources have told Football Insider.
The Whites climbed into the automatic promotion spots in the Championship after their 4-0 win over Swansea City on Tuesday evening.
Daniel Farke’s side are now in pole position to return to the top flight of English football alongside league leaders Leicester City.
Sources have told Football Insider that promotion clauses within first-team contracts will cost Leeds between £10-£15million.
They add that the Yorkshire club will have agreed a “fixed wage rise” for first-team players usually of between 15-20 per cent.
Leeds United face £15m promotion payout
Leeds reportedly had a wage bill of £121million in the 2021/22 season although that figure will have drastically dropped following their relegation last summer.
On top of wage rises, players will bank outright payments in the form of bonuses if they can secure promotion.
While the return to the Premier League is set to cost an eight-figure fee – it pales in comparison to the huge financial benefits the club will receive.

According to Deloitte, promotion to the Premier League can increase revenue by £135million to £265million – depending if they avoid immediate relegation back to the Championship.
Leeds recorded a turnover of £189million in the 2021-22 season when they narrowly avoided relegation.
