Sources: Leicester City and Southampton in hunt to sign Massengo

Leicester City and Southampton are in the hunt to sign Bristol City midfielder Han-Noah Massengo, Football Insider understands.

The 20-year-old has been one of the Championship club’s shining lights this season and Premier clubs have been keeping tabs on his progress.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that scouts from Leicester and Southampton have been checking on the France youth international as they weigh up moves.

Massengo is in the final 18 months of his contract at City and they are bracing themselves for interest.

As quoted by Bristol Live earlier this month (4 February), Nigel Pearson revealed the club remain in negotiations with the diminutive midfielder but little progress has been made.

He moved to Ashton Gate from French giants Monaco in the summer of 2019 for £7.2million and has established himself as one of the first names on the teamsheet.

Massengo has been the senior partner to teenager Alex Scott in the heart of Bristol City’s midfield in recent weeks with Andy King and Matty James both injured.

He has played 86 times across all competitions for the Robins and made seven appearances for Monaco before his switch across the channel.

Southampton have a well-established midfield partnership of James Ward-Prowse and Oriel Romeu but have a good track record of recruiting the best young players.

Leicester may be planning for life without Youri Tielemans after Fabrizio Romano reported last week (11 February) he will not extend his contract with the club beyond 2023.
