Sources: Lewis O’Brien undergoing DC United medical after Nottingham Forest agree deal
Nottingham Forest midfielder Lewis O’Brien has flown to America to finalise a move to DC United, sources have told Football Insider.
O’Brien is undergoing talks and medical tests ahead of a loan move to the MLS club.
The 24-year-old was left in limbo in January after a move to join Blackburn Rovers on deadline day was blocked by the EFL due to the required paperwork not being completed in time.
The midfielder’s current contract at Forest runs until 2026 after joining from Huddersfield in July 2022 in a deal reportedly worth £10million.
So far this season the midfielder has made 13 top flight appearances for Steve Cooper’s side but has been in the starting XI for fewer than half of those games.
O’Brien was omitted from the club’s 25-man Premier League squad for the second half of the campaign and was set for months on the sidelines.
But the centre-mid has been thrown a lifeline by Wayne Rooney’s DC United and sources have told Football Insider that O’Brien is set to complete his medical with the American side.
Last week (10 March), this site revealed that Forest agreed a deal in principle to allow O’Brien to join DC United on loan.
Although the MLS season doesn’t finish until November, it is believed Rooney’s side have agree to a break clause in the deal which would allow O’Brien to return to Forest in the summer.

The US transfer window does not close until 24 April.
DC United are currently eighth in the MLS’s Eastern Conference League after just three games this season.
