Sources: Liverpool offering Roberto Firmino new deal as new Klopp attack plan revealed

Liverpool are set to offer Roberto Firmino a new contract ahead of the summer, Football Insider understands.

The Brazilian’s future at the club is in doubt with his current deal expiring in the summer of 2023 as well as the reshaping of Jurgen Klopp’s attack.

A Liverpool source has told Football Insider that the club plan to offer Firmino, who turns 31 in October a contract extension.

Liverpool

Manager Jurgen Klopp remains a huge admirer of the Brazil international and believes he still has a big role to play in the coming seasons.

Firmino has been a virtual untouchable for most of Klopp’s reign and his arrival in the summer of 2015 from Hoffenehim pre-dated that of the manager.

But he has made just seven Premier League starts this season and is no longer an undisputed first choice.

Diogo Jota has emerged as the number one spearhead at Anfield on the back of his 17-goal campaign.

However, Firmino was utilised in the central striker role in Thursday’s 2-0 win over Leicester City before he was subbed after an hour.

Jota started on the right of the front three, with new signing Luis Diaz on the left, and scored both of the team’s goals.

Firmino has scored seven goals, including four in the Premier League, from 22 matches in all competitions this season as well as supplied four assists.

He has now played 314 matches for Liverpool, scoring 94 times and supplying 73 assists.
