Sources: Liverpool to back Arne Slot with January signing

Liverpool are still planning to make money available to strengthen Arne Slot’s squad in January despite their recent struggles, sources have told Football Insider.

The Reds made headlines as they topped the summer spending charts in the Premier League with an eye-catching outlay of over £420million, but further funds will still be available this winter.

There is still pressure on Slot despite Liverpool’s victory over West Ham on Sunday, even if the board currently have no desire to show him the door anytime soon.

Instead, the attention appears to be to back the boss with plenty of resources once again, with the hope that he can turn their season around.

Liverpool won’t hold back in the January window

Alexander Isak netted his first Premier League goal for Liverpool in their win this weekend, and there has been plenty of scrutiny on the performances of both him and Florian Wirtz so far this term.

The pair were the highlights of the Reds’ stunning summer spend, but neither have truly lived up to the heights that have been expected of them so far.

Nevertheless, sources have indicated that there is no intention for the Merseysiders to rein in their spending mid-season, with centre-back outlined as a key area of concern for them.

Ibrahima Konate’s long-term situation remains uncertain, while the long-term injury to Giovanni Leoni has left Liverpool short-staffed at the heart of the backline.

That problem is set to be addressed in January, regardless of the recent uncertainty that has been surrounding the manager.

The Reds have convinced Crystal Palace into Marc Guehi deal

Football Insider recently revealed that Liverpool are still interested in signing Marc Guehi, and that they could even be forced into doing a deal for him in January rather than next summer.

Crystal Palace are set to lose him for free at the end of the season as things stand, and that could result in them being receptive to offers this winter to ensure they receive some sort of return for their star.

Guehi has quickly become one of the most sought-after defenders in world football, with the likes of Real Madrid and Bayern Munich also keen.

Liverpool came within inches of securing his signature in the summer, and they may even be able to go one better when the winter window gets underway.
