Aston Villa are not put off by Kalvin Phillips' public stance that he has no intention of quitting Man City, sources have told Football Insider.

This site first broke the news of Villa's interest in Phillips, 27, back in April - and he remains a key midfield target as the summer window approaches.

Phillips has gone public to claim he wants to make a big impact at Man City next season after a wretched debut campaign following his move from Leeds United.

Speaking to BBC Radio Manchester (26 May), the England international claimed he wants to become "undroppable" to Pep Guardiola in the 2023-24 campaign.

But Aston Villa believe City could be willing to cash in on Phillips as they look to raise funds for other signings.

There are also suggestions behind the scenes at the Etihad Stadium that the midfielder lacks the mobility and quick one-touch passing game to thrive under Guardiola.

Unai Emery is a "huge" fan of the former Leeds star, sources say, and Villa are monitoring the situation closely as the 2022-23 campaign draws to a close.

Football Insider revealed earlier this year (1 January) that West Ham have reignited their long-term interest in the midfielder.

Phillips has made 20 appearances across all competitions this term, but just three of those outings have come as part of the starting eleven.

Nevertheless, the 27-year-old could win a famous treble this season - with the FA Cup and Champions League finals to come next month.

The 26-cap England star has also been named as part of the Three Lions squad for next month's Euro 2024 qualifiers despite his limited involvement this term.

Aston Villa are planning a big-money assault on the summer transfer window after the success under Emery this term.
