Sources: Major update on Liverpool star Roberto Firmino as next club decision made

Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino has decided that he would prefer to stay in Europe next season, sources have told Football Insider.

The Reds confirmed that the 31-year-old will leave Anfield upon the expiration of his contract at the end of the season.

Firmino has told his agent not to discuss his future plans until the end of the season, with his full focus on helping Liverpool in their pursuit of a top-four finish in the Premier League.

Saudi Arabian and MLS clubs have already shown interest in signing Firmino as a free agent this summer, but it is understood that he would prefer a move to a European team.

There has been interest from Italy in Firmino’s signature, with Inter and AC Milan both monitoring the situation.

Firmino joined Liverpool in 2015 in a £29million move from German outfit 1899 Hoffenheim, and the Brazilian has earned a legendary status in Merseyside over the last eight seasons.

He has made 356 appearances across all competitions for the Reds, scoring 108 goals and assisting 79.

Firmino has been part of a Liverpool side that has won the Premier League, EFL Cup, Champions League and Club World Cup.

He joined Liverpool during Jurgen Klopp’s first transfer window as manager, and the German admitted he was surprised by his decision to leave the club.

“Surprised? Yes, a little bit,” said Klopp. “It’s pretty special. He told me and then the only other thing he said is, ‘Now I want to bring this wonderful story to a positive end.’”
