Sources: Major update today on Aston Villa bid to sign Moussa Diaby
Moussa Diaby is yet to be convinced by Unai Emery’s Aston Villa proposal despite the club pulling out all the stops to get him, sources have told Football Insider.
A new and improved £42m offer has been submitted by Villa and talks are continuing between Villa and Bayer Leverkusen over a deal.
But Diaby himself has not yet said ‘yes’ to the Midlands club as their pursuit remains up in the air.
Leverkusen depart for a pre-season training camp in Austria at the weekend and all parties would prefer the matter to be resolved by then.
The 24-year-old’s current contract in Germany runs until 2025 following his arrival from Paris Saint-Germain in 2019.
On 14 July, Football Insider revealed that Emery’s side had had a bid rejected for the winger.
Several other clubs are believed to have bid for Diaby and it is not a straightforward race.
The France international made 48 appearances for the Bundesliga side across all competitions last season, netting 14 goals and offering up 11 assists in those outings.
Emery is keen to bring in two wingers before the conclusion of the summer window and Leeds United’s Wilfired Gnonto is also on the club’s radar.
Football Insider exclusively revealed (5 July) that Everton and Villa, alongside other Premier League clubs, are interested in signing the Leeds star.

The 19-year-old’s current contract at Elland Road runs until 2027 after joining from FC Zurich last summer but is attracting lots of interest from Premier League clubs.
The attacker made 24 Premier League appearances for the Whites last season, netting two goals and offering up four assists in those outings.
