Sources: Man City green light James McAtee transfer

Man City have given James McAtee the green light to go out on loan this season, sources have told Football Insider.

Multiple Premier League and Championship clubs have registered their interest in signing the 19-year-old sensation.

With his first-team chances set to be limited in Pep Guardiola’s star-studded side, City have decided to loan out McAtee for the first time so that he can continue his development with regular action.

The attacking midfielder has made six first-team appearances for City after graduating from their youth set-up.

McAtee made his senior debut in the 6-1 win over Wycombe in the Carabao Cup on 21 September 2021.

He is yet to score for the club after racking up 116 minutes in those six appearances.

McAtee signed his latest Man City deal in February 2022, keeping him at The Etihad until the summer of 2026.

Earlier this year, he also made his first appearance for England’s Under 23 side, coming on as a substitute in 10 June’s 5-0 win over Kosovo.

On Thursday (28 July) Football Insider pundit Kevin Campbell insisted McAtee should sign for Leeds United as he will get plenty of game time against quality opposition.

Man City have bolstered their attacking options with the signing of Erling Haaland this summer while Gabriel Jesus has joined Arsenal.

At Under 23s level, McAtee has 27 goals and 19 assists in 52 games, including 42 starts.

He has been at City since signing for the club’s academy as an Under-11.
