Sources: Man City in talks over signing Rangers star Alex Lowry

Man City are rivalling Newcastle United in the race to sign Rangers sensation Alex Lowry, Football Insider understands.

This site revealed on Monday (18 April) that Newcastle recruitment chief Steve Nickson met Lowry’s agent for talks in a hotel on 8 April.

Now a recruitment source has told Football Insider that City have also had a meeting with Lowry’s camp as they plot a potential move.

The Premier League champions are tracking the 18-year-old amid major doubts over his Ibrox future.

Football Insider revealed the Glasgow giants have offered the attacking midfielder, 18, a new contract worth £5,000-a-week.

It comes after, as revealed on 16 February, the attacking midfielder knocked back their opening contract offer.

Rangers are desperate to tie down the teenager they regard to have huge potential.

The club want him to agree a deal running to the summer of 2025 that would replace his existing agreement, which expires next year.

Lowry has made four appearances for the Gers this season with three of those in the Scottish Cup.

His only outing in the Scottish Premiership came against Livingston on 26 January.

The midfielder played the full 90 minutes in a 1-0 win at Ibrox.

The Scotland under-19 international can play in various attacking positions, including behind the main striker and on the right and left flanks.

Rangers are aware of interest south of the border in Lowry with Newcastle and Man City at the front of the queue for his signature.
