Sources: Man City now turn attention to signing ‘next Martin Odegaard’

Man City have set their sights on signing Rosenborg sensation Sverre Nypan, sources have told Football Insider.

The Premier League giants sent scouts to watch the midfielder, 16, in action for his club in their Europa Conference League qualifier against Hearts in Edinburgh on Thursday night.

Nypan started and played the full match as the Scottish club recovered from 3-1 down to beat Rosenborg 4-3 on aggregate across the two-legged tie.

The wonderkid, who is Norway Under-17 international, is firmly on the radar of City’s recruitment team as they plot a potential move for a young player who is exciting talent spotters at the world’s elite clubs.

It is believed that City have a strong interest in Nypan, who they regard behind the scenes as the “next Martin Odegaard”.

The teenager is a left-footed central midfielder with outstanding technical ability, creativity and a maturity way beyond his years.

He does not turn 17 until December but is already firmly established in the Rosenborg starting XI with 19 appearances for the club, with the latest coming in Edinburgh in Thursday’s 3-1 defeat.

He has also been capped by his country at Under-15s, Under-16s and Under-17s levels.

Nypan has a contract with the Norwegian club that runs until the summer of 2025 after signing an extension last December.

He is emerging as one of the outstanding talents in Scandanavian football since City superstar Erling Haaland and his countryman Odegaard burst on to the scene.
