Sources: Man City ready Erling Haaland talks after £150m reveal

Man City are preparing to open talks with Erling Haaland over a new contract, sources have told Football Insider.

The 22-year-old’s current deal runs until the summer of 2027, but City are eager to reward Haaland for his sensational debut season and extend his stay for a further two years.

Haaland’s current contract initially included a release clause worth £150million which was scheduled to become active in 2024.

However, it is understood that the release clause in Haaland’s deal was removed when Pep Guardiola signed a two-year contract extension with City in November 2022.

City utilised the £51million release clause in Haaland’s Borussia Dortmund contract to bring him to the Etihad Stadium last summer, and the Premier League champions will be eager to make sure no other clubs can take advantage of a similar clause.

Sources inform Football Insider that Haaland is very happy at City and that he has made it clear that he is open to negotiating a new deal.

It remains to be seen if Haaland’s new terms will include any potential clauses that could come into effect in the future.
