Sources: Man City star Kalvin Phillips ready to complete move

Kalvin Phillips is ready to move on from Man City in January as his lack of action continues, sources have told Football Insider.

The midfielder, 28, was an unused substitute yet again on Sunday (10 December) as City ran out 2-1 winners against Luton at Kenilworth Road.

A well-placed source has told Football Insider that Phillips is “focused on his future” and is keen to move on in the new year.

Man City

Speaking recently, City boss Pep Guardiola insisted he is “so sorry” for Phillips’ continued exclusion but maintained he “cannot see” the midfielder breaking into his side.

The England international has made eight appearances across all competitions totalling 215 minutes.

Despite winning the treble last season, he has struggled for game time at City since completing a reported £45million move from Leeds United in 2022.

It is believed Newcastle and Tottenham have a strong interest in signing the midfielder in January as they look to bolster their squads.

West Ham and Juventus are also keen to prise him away from City.

It is believed Guardiola feels Phillips lacks the athleticism and speed required to play in the number six role.

The Spaniard has been concerned about the England international’s inability to cover ground in the midfield and prevent quick counter-attacks – and is now ready to part with him in January.

Man City

Phillips remains a regular fixture in the England side and is keen to maintain his place ahead of next year’s European Championships in Germany.

The midfielder has racked up 31 caps for his country, scoring once.

In other news, Man City could sign new striker in January after injury update.
