Sources: Man United accelerate new goalkeeper signing after Andre Onana sale agreed

Man United are making plans to sign a new goalkeeper in the summer transfer window as they prepare to let two of their current options leave.

Andre Onana is currently on loan at Turkish outfit Trabzonspor and there is a growing feeling he will be allowed to leave permanently come the summer.

Meanwhile, Altay Bayindir is believed to be closing in on a move away from Old Trafford with Besiktas the leading contender for his signature.

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Transfer Insider podcast, those sales will mean Man United are forced into the market to buy a new goalkeeper.

Senne Lammens has established himself as the undisputed number one under Michael Carrick, and any signing in the summer will likely be a backup for him.

Man United eye new goalkeeper after Andre Onana sold

Football Insider first revealed on 9 September that Man United hope to sell Onana permanently and plan to make a sizeable sum from his exit after a strong season in Turkey.

The Cameroon international has made 20 appearances in the Super Lig so far and has kept four clean sheets, with Trabzonspor rising to third in the league.

His sale, as well as the likely departure of Bayindir, will free up space and funds for a new addition who can provide backup and compete with Lammens for his position.

Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, “Obviously for United, if Bayindir is to leave and most likely Onana to leave as well, if they can find a buyer for him, they will have to bring in another goalkeeper to provide cover for Lammens next season.

“United are willing to let both goalkeepers leave, but of course that would leave them short of options, so they’d be looking for a new backup.

“Bayindir has been keen to get out and move on for the sake of his career for a while.

“There was talk he could have moved in January, but United would have been left without a replacement for him.

“I think summer gives the right time for everybody to sort out everything. United can bring in cover and Bayindir can move on in search of regular first team football.”

Besiktas close in on deal to sign Altay Bayindir

Amid United’s plans to sign a new goalkeeper, there is a growing feeling that Bayindir could be allowed to leave when the summer transfer window arrives.

Football Insider revealed on 1 March that Bayindir will be allowed to leave Man United, and suggestions a deal has been agreed with Besiktas are not far wide of the mark.

Besiktas are making moves to sign Bayindir and are increasingly confident of reaching an agreement with the Red Devils for his signature.

The 27-year-old is unhappy playing second-fiddle to Lammens, who has cemented his position as the number-one goalkeeper under Carrick.

While the final decision over his future is expected to be made in the summer after January moves were blocked, there is a growing feeling he will now move on.
