Sources: Man United and Newcastle United stance on Guirassy deal revealed after AFCON twist
Man United and Newcastle United are pushing hard to sign Stuttgart striker Serhou Guirassy in the January transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.
That is despite the 27-year-old being likely to link up with Guinea at the African Cup of Nations in the new year.
It is believed that both clubs will not be deterred from signing Guirassy despite his absence and they are firmly on his trail.
The French-born star has made 12 appearances for Guinea since making his debut in March 2022, scoring three goals.
Syli National have been drawn together with Senegal, Cameroon and Gambia at January’s tournament in the Ivory Coast, which could see Guirassy absent from club games from 13 January until 11 February.
But a well-placed source has told Football Insider that his expected participation at the tournament will not deter both Man United and Newcastle from making a move for his services.
Guirassy has a release clause worth around £15million in his Stuttgart contract, making him an affordable and attractive option for Premier League clubs.
Other clubs across Europe are now preparing to race the likes of Man United and Newcastle for the red-hot forward’s signature in January.
Meanwhile, Football Insider revealed on Monday (4 December) that Fulham had also held a strong interest in the 27-year-old.
But it is believed they are now not optimistic of being able to compete with frontrunning elite Premier League clubs for his signature.

Guirassy has managed 17 goals and two assists in 12 games across all competitions this season.
Man United sit seventh in the Premier League, while Newcastle are sixth after beating the Red Devils last time out.
