Sources: Man United now want to sign young Kane alternative who’s rocketed up their wanted list

Atalanta star Rasmus Hojlund features highly on the striker wanted list at Man United ahead of the summer window, sources have told Football Insider.

A well-placed source has told this site that the 20-year-old is seen as an alternative to big-money deals for Tottenham’s Harry Kane or Napoli hitman Victor Osimhen.

Hojlund is regarded as one of the best young strikers in world football and it is believed he has wowed Man United scouts throughout the 2022-23 campaign.

The youngster only joined Atalanta last summer (2022), but has had a strong first season in Serie A and recently burst onto the international scene.

Hojlund notched 15 goals across 41 appearances in all competitions in 2022-23, despite starting in just 26 of those outings.

The Denmark international hit the headlines in March, scoring five goals in two Euro 2024 qualifiers against Finland and Kazakhstan.

Hojlund earns a reported wage of just under £11,000-a-week on his Atalanta contract, which runs until June 2027.

He cost the Bergamo outfit just under £15million last summer (2022).

It is believed that Man United are now ready to move for the 20-year-old should they fail in their pursuit of Kane.

Football Insider revealed earlier this month (9 May) that the England captain is the “number one priority and top target” for the Red Devils.

Manager Erik ten Hag has already confirmed he is planning to add another goalscorer for the 2023-24 season – with Marcus Rashford the source of most of Man United’s strikes this term.

Rashford notched 30 goals across all competitions, while second-highest goalscorer Bruno Fernandes managed just 13.

Man United will play in the Champions League group stage next season after their third-place Premier League finish.

Ten Hag’s side also face Man City in the FA Cup final on Saturday (3 June).
