Sources: Man United set sights on Conor Gallagher after green light
Manchester United are keeping close tabs on Conor Gallagher ahead of January after getting the green light from Ruben Amorim, sources have told Football Insider.
The 25-year-old completed a move from Chelsea to Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2024 but his future is up in the air going into the mid-season window.
Man United were offered the chance to sign Gallagher on deadline day of the most recent transfer window but an agreement could not be reached
Ruben Amorim’s side could have agreed a loan deal for the midfielder, but instead opted to bring in Senne Lammens.

Man United see Conor Gallagher as Kobbie Mainoo replacement
Sources say that Man United are still keeping an eye on Gallagher and see him as a potential replacement for Kobbie Mainoo in central midfield.
Mainoo is well down the pecking order under Amorim and has been limited to mainly substitute appearances so far this season.
Higher-ups at the Red Devils believe that Gallagher is a better fit for the Portuguese manager’s system than the 20-year-old.
Despite now being seen as a backup, Man United are likely to block Mainoo’s exit in January, as they did during the summer window when they refused to let him leave on loan.
Man United face battle for Gallagher
As well as Man United, Tottenham have been linked with Gallagher ahead of the January transfer window.

Crystal Palace are also interested in the England international, who had a loan spell at Selhurst Park in 2021-22.
Amorim’s side will have to beat off their fellow Premier League sides to secure the England international.
The Red Devils may also have trouble convincing Gallagher to leave Atletico Madrid, as he still has a role to play under Diego Simeone.
