Sources: Man United set sights on signing Onana after Ten Hag green light
Man United are keeping tabs on Everton star Amadou Onana ahead of a potential move this summer, sources have told Football Insider.
The 21-year-old midfielder has been a standout performer during his debut season with the Toffees, and he has caught the attention of Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag.
It is understood that the Dutchman wants to add more power and physicality to his midfield next season to complement the technical ability of Bruno Fernandes and Christian Eriksen.
Onana fits the profile wanted by Ten Hag, and he has given the green light to the United board to get a deal done for the Belgium international.
Onana is tied down at Goodison Park until 2027 after signing a five-year deal when joining the club, but he is prepared to push for a move this summer – especially if Everton are relegated to the Championship.
The young midfielder has been a regular starter for the Merseyside club since joining from Lille in a £33million move.
He has made 32 appearances across all competitions in 2022/23, scoring once and providing two assists in his 2,471 minutes of first-team action.

Sean Dyche has handed Onana a pivotal role in the team since replacing Frank Lampard in the Everton hot seat, and he was quick to praise his athleticism in the heart of midfield.
“I think with his physicality, driving into the box is a really good weapon,” said Dyche. “He’s a powerful boy, he will head it and he’s got an eye for it.”
