Sources: Man United star Raphael Varane holds clear-the-air talks with Ten Hag after bust-up

Raphael Varane has held clear-the-air talks with Man United boss Erik ten Hag following their backroom rift, sources have told Football Insider.

It is believed that the pair have set aside their differences after the Frenchman took umbrage with the fact that the boss left him out of the Manchester derby in October for tactical reasons.

Varane was also unhappy that summer signing Jonny Evans had been selected ahead of him on multiple occasions throughout the season.

However, following new talks, the tense situation between them seems to have been resolved.

Varane was surprisingly omitted from the United XI for their 3-0 Premier League win over West Ham on Sunday, with Ten Hag explaining before the match that it was a good time to rest the player given his recent exertions.

He did come on after 71 minutes to pair Harry Maguire, his replacement, following an injury to Lisandro Martinez.

The World Cup winner is out of contract at the end of the season and is reportedly earning £340,000-a-week at Old Trafford.

Sources have also told Football Insider (23 January) that the Red Devils are preparing to let Varane depart when his deal expires and are in “no rush” to extend his contract.

The 30-year-old has been reintroduced into the line-up in recent weeks after a stretch of nine league games without a start.

He has started five of United’s last six Premier League games and only missed their clash against West Ham last month (23 December) due to illness.

Varane has made nine Premier League starts this season and has scored one goal – the winner in Man United’s 1-0 victory against Wolves on the opening day of the campaign.
