Sources: Man United told to pay £70m to seal Costa deal

Man United are keeping tabs on Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa as they weigh up a potential summer move, sources have told Football Insider.

The Red Devils are in the market for a new goalkeeper this summer and have been keeping a keen eye on the 23-year-old Portugal international.

Costa is contracted at Porto until 2027, and they are only willing to sell him this summer if a bid matches their £70million asking price.

It is understood that United have launched multiple scouting missions in Portugal to regularly watch Costa in action this season.

He has virtually been everpresent for the Portuguese outfit, missing only one league fixture this season and keeping 19 clean sheets in all competitions.

Porto boast a very impressive defensive record this season, conceding only 19 goals in 31 league matches – a record bettered only by league leaders Benfica.

United are keen to bring in a goalkeeper to challenge David De Gea’s starting spot in the side, with the 32-year-old Spaniard making a number of mistakes this season.

The Manchester club are in talks with their No.1 over a new deal however, with Football Insider sources revealing on April 28 that there is a growing confidence at United that De Gea will sign a new contract.

But Erik ten Hag wants to sign a young goalkeeper capable of replacing De Gea at Old Trafford, and Costa fits the profile desired by the Dutchman.

United could face competition from Chelsea if they do decide to table a bid for Costa, with the Blues also scouting the shot-stopper this season.
