Sources: Middlesbrough agree to sign Lea-Siliki

Middlesbrough have agreed to sign Rennes midfielder James Lea-Siliki, Football Insider understands.

Boro boss Neil Warnock has been looking to bolster his midfield options and it looks like he is set to beat the deadline to land the Cameroon international.

A French source has told Football Insider that Rennes have agreed to loan the 25-year-old to Middlesbrough.

Lea-Siliki came through the youth ranks at PSG before eventually making his way to Rennes in 2014.

He is an incredibly versatile player and has featured as a left-back and as a left winger during his time with the club though he usually plies his trade as a central midfielder.

He made his senior debut in 2017 and has made 123 appearances for the French side to date.

The midfielder has been an important player for Lille since he made his debut but spent the majority of last season on the sidelines.

Lea-Siliki started the season with a hip injury and once he returned to fitness he struggled to get into the side.

In all, he only started three league games as he was limited to brief appearances off the bench.

It would now seem the bench is unattainable for the midfielder with Rennes happy to let him go out on loan.

Warnock has been looking for more midfield reinforcements all summer and he looks to have found his man.

Lea-Siliki has scored ten goals and registered seven assists during his time in France.
