Sources: Middlesbrough to open Sol Brynn talks

Middlesbrough are planning to open talks with goalkeeper Sol Brynn over a new deal, sources have told Football Insider.

The Championship play-off contenders are willing to offer the 22-year-old a new contract after an outstanding campaign on loan at Swindon Town.

Brynn shone during his spell with the League Two side, helping them to a 10th-placed finish in the league before being named the club’s Player of the Season in their recent end-of-season rewards.

The shot-stopper is entering the final year of his contract at the Riverside, and Boro are keen to open talks over a new contract to fend off interest in his signature.

It is understood that a number of clubs have been keeping tabs on Brynn’s impressive loan performances this season and are monitoring his situation in Middlesbrough to decide whether a move is possible this summer.

Zack Steffen has been Boro’s regular starter this season, keeping nine clean sheets in 43 appearances this season.

But the on-loan Man City goalkeeper is set to return to the Etihad Stadium this summer, opening up a gap for Brynn to stake his claim.

Brynn has been everpresent for Swindon since joining them last summer – starting and playing a full 90 minutes in all 46 league fixtures in 2022/23.

He kept 13 clean sheets for the League Two outfit and drew praise from former Swindon boss Scott Lindsey for his performances in the side.

“Sol is a hero to the fans because of the performances that he’s put in,” Lindsey said about the goalkeeper.
