Sources: MK Dons in advanced talks to agree Robbie Stockdale deal

MK Dons are poised to appoint Hull City first-team coach Robbie Stockdale as assistant manager to Mark Jackson, sources have told Football Insider.

Jackson has been looking for a number two since joining MK Dons from Leeds last month and he has decided to move for Stockdale.

The 43-year-old is in advanced talks with MK Dons and a full agreement is close to being secured.

Stockdale is highly regarded within coaching circles having worked at Sunderland and West Brom before taking his first managerial role at Rochdale in 2021.

He was in charge of the north-west club for a year but was dismissed as manager at the start of his second season after beginning the campaign with four successive defeats.

After a short break, Stockdale joined the Hull City coaching staff in October, with the club stating he joined as a first-team coach on a temporary basis.

Stockdale enjoyed a 15-year playing career of his own, including a seven-year spell at Middlesborough at the start of his career.

The 43-year-old also made five senior caps for the Scotland national team.

He hung up his boots at Grimsby Town in 2012 after a short stint as the club’s caretaker manager.

But Stockdale didn’t follow up on his coaching career until 2015 when he joined Sunderland in a caretaker role too.

Coaching jobs at Hibernian and West Brom followed, before his appointment at Rochdale and then Hull City.
