Sources: Morgan Rogers in advanced talks to agree ‘huge’ Aston Villa deal

Morgan Rogers is in advanced talks to agree a new deal at Aston Villa, sources have told Football Insider.

Football Insider exclusively revealed in September that Aston Villa had opened talks with Rogers over a contract extension.

Manager Unai Emery then recently confirmed that negotiations regarding the highly rated midfielder were underway.

Sources say that both parties are now close to an agreement, which would see Villa tie Rogers down for an extended period.

Morgan Rogers set for major pay rise

Rogers is currently not among the highest-paid senior players at Aston Villa, despite his recent rapid progression and development.

Sources say that Villa are now offering him a huge pay rise to help reflect his status at the club.

At the start of the season, Rogers was criticised for a run of poor form, with some questioning his commitment to the Midlands side.

However, in recent weeks the 23-year-old has rediscovered his spark, grabbing goals and assists for Emery’s side.

Aston Villa to ward off interest in Rogers

Over the summer, Aston Villa were nearly forced to sell Rogers due to PSR constraints, but managed to hold onto their star man.

The likes of Manchester City, Tottenham and Arsenal were linked with the England international.

Chelsea were plotting a January move for Rogers, according to former Aston Villa and Man United senior scout Mick Brown.

However, if the Midlands side can agree a new deal for the midfielder, then it will quieten down the talk of any potential exit.
