Sources: Newcastle in race with Tottenham to sign Piero Hincapie after London talks
Newcastle United have held talks over signing Tottenham target Piero Hincapie but want to wait until the summer to get him, sources have told Football Insider.
Spurs are in negotiations to land the Bayer Leverkusen star in a deadline-busting deal amid reports a £22million bid has been rejected.
Hincapie, 21, is also wanted by Newcastle, but they are looking at a summer move rather than a last-gasp January deal.

Football Insider revealed on 16 January that the north-east giants held talks in London that day with the Ecuador international’s representatives.
Everton are also keen on Hincapie, but Leverkusen are adamant he will not leave this month.
The young centre-back, who can also slot in at left-back, had a humble start to his career after breaking through the academy of local Ecuadorian club Independiente del Valle.
After just one season in Ecuador, Argentine club Talleres swooped for his signature, tying him down to a five-year contract.
However, a move to Bayer Leverkusen in 2021 proved too good to turn down, and Hincapie has been working his way up to become a regular starter with the German outfit.

Hincapie started the 2022/23 season by making brief appearances but the 21-year-old has now completed the full 90 minutes of six of the last seven Leverkusen matches in the Bundesliga.
Overall he has now made 20 appearances across all competitions this season, including five full 90-minute matches in the Champions League.
