Sources: Newcastle United green light Allan Saint-Maximin sale amid £40m reveal

Newcastle are willing to sell Allan Saint-Maximin this month as they look to recruit a top-class forward, sources from the club have told Football Insider.

Eddie Howe has given the green light to the north-east giants letting the 25-year-old go if the club can land one of their top attacking targets.

Newcastle are in the market for one, possibly two, forwards as Howe looks to reshape his attack.

Saint-Maximin‘s lack of end product is an issue for the manager and the coaching staff, and he will be sold if their asking price is met.

Newcastle value Saint-Maximin at around the £40million mark.

The winger’s last goal in any competition for the Magpies came on 15 January in a 1-1 draw with Watford.

Since then, he has made 16 appearances and only registered two assists.

Under Steve Bruce, Saint-Maximin was often the sole source of attacking excitement in the Newcastle squad.

However, the club’s reliance on him for goals and assists has diminished since the appointment of Howe.

In the most recent January transfer window, Chris Wood and Bruno Guimaraes arrived at St James’ Park and had far more of an impact on the club’s attacking output in the second half of the 2021-22 season.

In the second half of the Toon’s game against Nottingham Forest (6 August) Saint-Maximin failed to square the ball to Callum Wilson who would have been shooting at an empty net, wasting a chance while the game was still 0-0 much to the frustration of fans inside the ground.

Saint-Maximin has made 94 total appearances for Newcastle since joining the club from Nice in the summer of 2019.

He has scored 12 goals and registered 16 assists.
