Sources: Norwich City make preliminary contact with Steve Bruce over manager job

Norwich City have made preliminary contact with Steve Bruce over their manager’s job, sources have told Football Insider.

The Championship club are in the market for a new boss after sacking Dean Smith on Tuesday.

It is believed that four-times promotion winner Bruce is among the contenders for the Norwich post and they have been in contact with him.

Bruce is said by those with knowledge of his situation to be “very keen” on the job and would be willing to agree a short-term deal until the end of the season, that would include a guaranteed contract if he gets them promotion.

The 61-year-old is available after being sacked by West Brom in October following just eight months in charge.

Their second-tier rivals Norwich have strong promotion ambitions in the second half of the campaign.

The Canaries had been top of the table on 1 October but are now fifth and 12 points off the top two.

However, Smith lost three of his last four league games in charge, forcing the ownership to make a change.

Bruce left West Brom after winning just two games from 15 at the start of the season.

Those results left the Baggies in the Championship relegation zone.

He also left Newcastle United winless and in the bottom three when he was fired by the club’s new owners in October 2021.

Norwich are next in action against Reading on Friday (30 December).

The Canaries could move up to fourth if they win and other results go their way.
