Sources: Norwich City star Max Aarons ready to quit this summer

There is a “real possibility” of star defender Max Aarons leaving Norwich City this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

It is believed that the Canaries are bracing for offers for the 23-year-old who could feel the time is right to depart Carrow Road this summer if they cannot achieve another promotion.

Premier League interest is likely once again for Aarons, who has remained loyal to Norwich despite suffering two top-flight relegations with the club.

The former England Under-21 international will have just 12 months left to run on his contract in June.

Jamaica wanted Aarons to switch allegiances in 2021 but the right-back insisted his “full focus” is on playing for England at a senior level – despite not yet receiving his first call-up.

He has started 34 of Norwich’s 36 Championship games this season, notching one goal and two assists.

The Canaries sit seventh in the second tier and could creep back into the play-off places in the final games of the season after the recent appointment of David Wagner.

Football Insider revealed last summer (18 August 2022) that Serie A duo Atalanta and Monza had seen loan offers for Aarons rejected.

Bundesliga side Borussia Monchengladbach also saw an approach knocked back by Norwich.

Aarons, who also came close to joining Tottenham on a number of occasions and had a verbal agreement with them, has racked up more than 200 appearances for the Canaries since making his first-team debut in August 2018.

He has been named in the EFL Team of the Season on two occasions after stellar performances during the Norfolk side’s title-winning campaigns.

The former Luton trainee penned his last contract extension in 2019 which sees him earn a reported wage of £22,500-a-week.

Norwich face struggling Huddersfield on Wednesday (15 March).
