Sources: Nottingham Forest in advanced talks to sign Stoke City striker Sam Surridge

Nottingham Forest are in advanced talks to sign Stoke City striker Sam Surridge, Football Insider understands.

Forest are in the market for a new striker after Lewis Grabban suffered an injury in their 2-1 defeat to Cardiff City yesterday (30 January).

A recruitment source has told Football Insider they have now turned their attention to Surridge and want to complete a deal before the window closes tonight.

Surridge moved to Stoke from Bournemouth at the beginning of the season and signed a four-year deal.

He has managed just two Championship starts since his move and was not in the Potters’ matchday squad for their 1-1 draw with Huddersfield Town on Friday night (28 January).

Stoke Live reported today (31 January) the imminent arrival of former Sunderland and Fulham striker Josh Maja may open the door for Surridge to leave on loan.

Nottingham Forest may be left short up front if they cannot complete a deal before the 11 pm cut-off.

Grabban had to be helped off the pitch at the end of their defeat to Cardiff and Steve Cooper is sweating over the extent of the injury.

They let Lyle Taylor join Birmingham City on loan until the end of the season earlier this month (27 January) but have brought in Keinan Davis on a temporary deal from Aston Villa.

Forest currently sit in eighth, just two points off the play-off places and will be hoping Surridge can help them bridge the gap.

The 23-year-old has 10 goals in 69 Championship games across his time at Bournemouth, Stoke and Swansea City.
