Sources: Nottingham Forest line up four new signings in ‘huge’ spree
Nottingham Forest are lining up four new signings this month as they plot a mega-money spree to escape relegation, sources have told Football Insider.
Forest recorded their first away league win of the season with a 1-0 win at bottom club Southampton on Wednesday to move out of the drop zone.
But the club will press ahead with plans to strengthen the team after owner Evangelos Marinakis gave the green light to another sensational spending spree.
Football Insider revealed in October that Forest are ready to splash out between £50-100million on January signings after overhauling their recruitment set-up.
The Premier League club sacked transfer chiefs George Syrianos and Andy Scott following a review of their £150m summer spend.
Many of the signings initially failed to fire and brought into question, internally and externally, the policy of signing 22 new players following their promotion to the Premier League.
But new sporting director Filippo Giraldi will be handed what sources say is a ‘huge’ transfer kitty in a bid to keep the club in the top flight.
Plans are being put in place to spend big on the new signings that can immediately improve Steve Cooper’s team.
Cooper’s job was under threat following five straight defeats earlier this season but Marinakis eventually decided to stand by the Welshman – handing him a new contract until 2025.
Among Forest’s most impressive summer additions are Morgan Gibbs-White and Taiwo Awoniyi – who scored his fourth league goal of the season to sink Southampton on Wednesday (4 January).

The promoted side have already added midfielder Gustavo Scarpa this month, with the Brazillian making his league debut from the bench against the Saints.
Cooper’s side face cup games against Blackpool and Wolves in the next week – before hosting Leicester in Premier League action on 14 January.
