Sources: Nottingham Forest planning ‘huge’ summer signing spree

Nottingham Forest are preparing for another signing spree in the summer window if they can avoid relegation from the Premier League, sources have told Football Insider.

It is believed that owner Evangelos Marinakis is ready to bankroll another busy window despite a lack of transfer success stories since returning to the top flight.

A well-placed source told Football Insider that “huge” money has been set aside to spend on high-profile, marquee signings if Forest can remain in the Premier League.

The Midlands club reportedly spent around £162million on 30 new arrivals in the 2022-23 season, including on the club-record signing of Morgan Gibbs-White.

Loan stars Renan Lodi, Dean Henderson and Keylor Navas have been among their most impressive performers – and decisions will need to be made on potential permanent moves in the off-season.

The promoted club have struggled to pull away from relegation danger despite their mammoth transfer spend.

As per the BBC (12 April), sporting director Filippo Giraldi has been sacked by Nottingham Forest just six months after joining the club.

Head of Recruitment George Syrianos and scouting head Andy Scott were also sacked by the club back in October – in another sign that Marinakis is not satisfied with Forest’s transfer business.

According to The Athletic (11 April), Forest are working on a deal to appoint Rangers sporting director Ross Wilson in a senior football role at the City Ground.

The Reds are staring down the barrel of potential relegation to the Championship after only returning to the Premier League last summer (2022).

Steve Cooper’s side sit 18th by virtue of their goal difference – which is the worst of any top-flight side.

Forest owner Marinakis has publicly warned Cooper that “results and performances must improve immediately” amid rumours of a potential sacking.
