Sources: Plymouth Argyle open talks to sign Leeds United star Darko Gyabi

Plymouth Argyle have opened talks to sign Leeds United midfielder Darko Gyabi on loan, sources have told Football Insider.

The central midfielder, 19, is set to be made available for a move away from Elland Road after making just two appearances for the Whites this season.

It is believed that Ian Foster’s side are working on a deal to land Gyabi after losing Finn Azaz and Luke Cundle this month.

The pair flourished in central midfield during their loan spells in the first half of the campaign, but their departure leaves Plymouth short in the middle of the park.

Argyle has targeted this position for swift and necessary improvements this month.

Now, the Pilgrims could fill this void by bringing Darko to Home Park with Leeds eager for him to earn more senior minutes.

Gyabi has been given just 46 minutes of senior action this season – a late substitute appearance in Leeds’ 4-3 win against Ipswich Town and a start against Shrewsbury Town in the first round of the EFL Cup.

He joined Leeds in 2022 from Man City for a reported £5million but has only been given five senior outings since.

League One side Fleetwood Town were reportedly interested in bringing the teenager to the club on loan during the summer, but the clubs could not reach an agreement.

The 2022-born ace has been a regular in England’s youth sides and made his last appearance for the under-20s in a 3-2 win against Germany in November.

Plymouth Argyle sit 18th in the Championship table while Leeds have dropped to fourth following a patchy run of form.
