Medical today: Portsmouth agree deal for Bristol City star Ryley Towler – sources
Portsmouth have agreed a deal with Bristol City for defender Ryley Towler, sources have told Football Insider.
The centre-back, 20, has been given permission to hold talks with the south coast side and undergo a medical at Fratton Park on Friday.
A full agreement is in place and the deal is expected to be announced in the next 24 hours.
Towler has impressed during the first half of the season on loan at AFC Wimbledon and his performances have caught the attention of Pompey.
Managerless Portsmouth are still looking to add to their squad despite the sacking of Danny Cowley earlier this week.
Towler came through the ranks at Bristol City but to date has only made five senior appearances for the side.
He has had four loans away from the club spending time at Frome Town, Taunton Town, Grimsby and AFC Wimbledon.
Towler spent the second half of the 2021-22 season on loan at Grimsby, where he made 13 appearances, all of which were starts, as the club sealed promotion back to the football league.
This season, the centre-back, who can also deputise at left-back, has not missed a game since he made his debut for the club against Northampton in September.
He has started 16 of the club’s 23 league games this term and also played every minute of the side’s three-game FA Cup campaign.

Portsmouth face Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday (7 January) in their first game following Cowley’s dismissal.
They then return to league action against Bolton Wanderers next weekend (14 January).
In other news, sources have told this site that Bolton, Barnsley and Peterborough are in the race to sign West Brom forward Jovan Malcolm.
