Sources: Portsmouth open talks to sign Middlesbrough midfielder Lewis Wing
Portsmouth are in talks to sign Middlesbrough midfielder Lewis Wing on loan, Football Insider understands.
Pompey boss Danny Cowley is determined to add to his squad before the transfer window slams shut and has lined up a move for Wing, 26, after being frustrated in his attempts to sign Rotherham’s Jamie Lindsay.
A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Boro are willing to terminate Wing’s loan spell at Hillsborough and send him to Fratton Park.
The midfielder is in the final six months of his Boro contract.
Wing has been an important player for Wednesday this season, starting 15 games in League One since joining the club on loan.
He has one assist to his name with his current side pushing for a place in the play-offs.
His loan spell at Hillsborough came after successful temporary moves to Rotherham and Yeovil Town in recent years.
Wing made 22 appearances for Yeovil and 20 for Rotherham.
In total, Wing has made 92 appearances and scored 13 goals for Boro.
On Sunday (30 January) this site revealed Pompey’s interest in signing Lindsay from Rotherham.
The former Celtic youngster, 26, is out of contract at the Millers this summer.
Portsmouth were working overtime to land the midfielder before Monday’s transfer deadline but have hit a wall during negotiations.
Their focus is now firmly on Wing as they look to beat tonight’s 11pm transfer deadline.
Portsmouth sit 11th in League One, nine points off the playoff places.
They are next in action against 15th-placed Charlton tonight (31 January).
