Sources: Rangers and Celtic race to sign midfielder for ‘decent fee’
Rangers and Celtic are set to battle it out in the race to sign BK Hacken midfielder Silas Andersen in the January transfer window.
Rangers and Celtic have both struggled to reach their previous heights this season, with Hearts leading the way in the Scottish Premiership as it stands.
They are both looking to add to their respective squads this month ahead of a huge few months, and Andersen has emerged onto each of their radars as a result.
The 21-year-old midfielder registered four goals and three assists in 39 appearances for Hacken in the 2025 campaign following a January move from Dutch club Utrecht.
His fine form in the Allsvenskan and Conference League has seen him linked to numerous top clubs, and Rangers and Celtic are each targeting a move for him this month, as I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast.

Andersen is a target for both Old Firm sides as January race heats up
Danny Rohl wants to add to his midfield options this month, with Sunderland’s Dan Neil targeted by Rangers as Nico Raskin potentially prepares to move on.
Football Insider recently revealed that Martin O’Neill wants to sign a striker and a centre-back following his return to Celtic, but they too could look to bolster his midfield options ahead of the second half of the campaign.
Speaking on the Inside Track podcast, I explained: “Andersen is a player who’s done really well for BK Hacken in Sweden, but the Swedish club are in no real hurry to lose him.
“They want to keep hold of him, so it would take a real decent fee for Rangers to sign him. There’s also reported interest from Celtic as well, so it could be an Old Firm fight for Andersen if it does come down to that.

“Both Celtic and Rangers are looking at him. He’s a young midfielder who has got the physical attributes to come in to Scotland and be a success.
“If it comes down to between Celtic and Rangers, let’s see who puts up the right offer to convince BK Hacken to sell him, but there’s no doubt that Rangers will be looking to strengthen that midfield area.
“I think in the January window, Danny Rohl has got a few areas of the squad that he would like to strengthen, and midfield is one of them. Andersen is obviously somebody who is firmly on the radar.”
Rangers and Celtic also battling it out for Kieran Bowie deal
The nature of the Old Firm clubs’ dominance in Scotland means they are often in the market for similar players, and that remains the same this season, even though they have both struggled on the pitch.
Football Insider revealed on Friday that Rangers and Celtic are both interested in Hibernian striker Bowie, who has scored seven goals in 20 Premiership matches this season.
Wolves have also been linked to Bowie, while he is also wanted by a number of Championship clubs, so his signature is not set to be easy to come by this month.
Both Old Firm sides are in real need of quality additions to their respective squads this month, and whoever comes out on top of the pursuits of either Andersen or Bowie could hold the upper hand in the race to beat Hearts to the title.
