Sources: Rangers’ Djeidi Gassama transfer plan revealed

Rangers will consider selling winger Djeidi Gassama in the summer if they fail to secure a place in the Champions League, sources have told Football Insider.

The Scottish Premiership giants received plenty of interest in the 22-year-old in the winter transfer window, and would potentially accept a significant offer for him in the summer.

Rangers can secure a place in next season’s Champions League by beating Hearts and Celtic to the Premiership title, and sources say that could provide a financial boost that could see them keep all their key players.

Danny Rohl is a huge fan of Gassama dating back to their time together at Sheffield Wednesday, but finances at Ibrox may ultimately dictate that they have to part ways in the summer.

Fresh £10m Djeidi Gassama offer to tempt Rangers

Football Insider revealed at the end of January that Rangers were doing “everything they could” to keep Gassama amid heavy interest from Monaco in the final days of the window.

The French side tabled an initial loan offer to the Gers which included an obligation to buy the wideman for £10million at the end of the season, but that was swiftly knocked back.

Gassama has notched eight goals and two assists for the Ibrox outfit in all competitions this term, and as a result, he was deemed to be too important to lose in the middle of the season, especially with the title race heating up.

However, offers in the region of the £10m mark could tempt Rangers if they were to arrive once again in the summer.

Failure to secure Champions League football would see Rohl and Co. needing to find ways of raising funds for new players, and Gassama is one of the main figures in the squad who carries a sizeable value.

Gers set for fresh Bailey Rice talks

Football Insider revealed on Monday that Rangers are planning to hold fresh talks with Bailey Rice over the possibility of a new contract once he has recovered from his knee injury.

The young midfielder is out of contract at Ibrox in the summer, and that has prompted interest from a series of clubs from south of the border.

Aston Villa and West Brom are both showing a keen interest in the 19-year-old, whose last appearance for Rangers came way back in August.

The Gers have failed to tie Rice down to a new deal so far, but they are plotting another attempt in the coming weeks once he is fit to return to action.

However, by delaying their next discussions with the starlet, they risk the possibility of one of the other interested parties stealing a march on them.
