Sources: Rangers offer Josh McPake pay-off to terminate deal
Rangers have offered Josh McPake a payoff to leave the club in this window, sources have told Football Insider.
The 21-year-old was omitted from Michael Beale’s Champions League squad even though he qualifies as a home-grown player.
McPake has one year remaining on his contract, but the Scottish giants are keen to offload him this summer to remove his wages from their books.
However, he remains unwilling to leave Ibrox unless he receives a settlement from the club covering lost wages.
Football Insider understands that McPake’s long-term representatives CAA Base have cut ties with the player this summer.
McPake has struggled to break into the first-team at Rangers, making only one appearance for the Glasgow side throughout his time at the club.
He was a substitute for the Rangers B team on Tuesday night for the SPFL Trophy Cup match against Stenhousemuir.
His sole first-team appearance came under Steven Gerrard in the 2019/20 season where he came on in a 6-0 win over St Joseph’s FC in a Europa Qualifying match.
Since then, McPake has been sent out on loan to Dundee, Greenock Morton, Harrogate Town, Morecambe, Tranmere Rovers and Queen’s Park.

McPake’s time at Ibrox has been littered with disciplinary issues, with Football Insider reporting in March that Rangers were considering terminating his deal after fining him for off-pitch issues.
Aware that he was not in the club’s long-term plans, Beale was eager to offload McPake in January, but no suitable offers were made for the young winger.
