Sources: Rangers set to land stunning £20m+ windfall
Rangers are in line for a £20million-plus bounty from their European exploits this season, Football Insider analysis shows.
The Scottish title challengers are preparing for the last 16 of the Europa League following the sensational win over tournament favourites Borussia Dortmund and have already secured £7.8m from performance-related pay-outs.
In additions, Ibrox sources have told Football Insider, the club can expect to pocket a further £11m from top-ups as well as whatever they earn from the forthcoming knockout matches.
The Glasgow giants will secure another huge financial shot in the arm if they win the round-of-16 tie against Red Star Belgrade starting on 10 March.
Uefa’s Europa League distribution data shows that Rangers can earn another £930,000 if they overcome the Serbian side in the two-legged clash next month.
The Europa League has proved very lucrative during the last four seasons and been critical to the club’s balance sheet as well as their ability to attract new players.
Ibrox sources have told Football Insider that Scotland’s second-richest club will top up the £6.6m with cash from the Scottish clubs’ share of the TV pool, their increased Uefa co-efficient ranking as well as commercial and merchandise income.
The return this season of bumper crowds at 50,000-capacity Ibrox means Rangers should comfortably surpass their 2019-20 European earnings of £17.6m from the competition.
What the final sum will be depends on their progress in the knockout stages.
European competition provides the gateway for a massive spike in revenues for Scottish clubs.
In December of last year, Rangers posted their most recent set of financial results, which revealed around a quarter of their turnover of £47.7m for 2020-21 came from their Europa League run.
