Sources: Ryan Woods undergoing Hull City medical after Birmingham City accept bid

Hull City have agreed to sign Birmingham City midfielder Ryan Woods, sources have told Football Insider.

The 28-year-old has headed to the Championship club for a medical and finalise terms on a permanent move.

Hull are confident of completing the capture of Woods in the coming days.

The midfielder made 31 appearances last season and has already played 90 minutes in both of the Blues’ first two Championship games in the new campaign.

Woods is vastly experienced in the second tier, having made 248 appearances in the league since his debut in the competition for Brentford in 2015.

The defensive midfielder joined Birmingham last summer (2021), and his contract at St Andrew’s runs until June 2024.

Hull are now looking to add Woods’ experience as they look to improve on last season’s 19th-place finish under ambitious owner Acun Ilicali.

The Norton Canes-born ace came through the ranks at Shrewsbury before joining Brentford in 2015 – playing a huge role in their meteoric rise through the leagues.

Then-Shrews boss Mickey Mellon hailed the midfielder in 2015 – branding him a “terrific kid with unbelievable ability” and insisting he was the “first player on the training pitch and the last off” while at the club.

Woods cost a reported £7million when he left Brentford for Stoke City in 2019 – but made just 39 appearances for the club before leaving for Birmingham.

Krystian Bielik will be the favourite to replace the 28-year-old in the Blues’ lineup following his loan arrival from Derby County earlier this summer.

John Eustace’s side face Cardiff at lunchtime on Saturday (13 August), while Hull face relegated Norwich later that afternoon.
