Sources: Sheffield United plot raid to sign Tijjani Reijnders

Sheffield United are plotting a move for AZ Alkmaar midfielder Tijjani Reijnders, sources have told Football Insider.

The Championship club’s head of recruitment Paul Mitchell was in attendance at Sunday’s game between Alkmaar and FC Volendam to cast an eye over the 24-year-old.

Reijnders is likely to have impressed the onlooking Mitchell with a goal and man-of-the-match performance in the Dutch Eredivisie’s club 2-1 victory.

United are in the market for new signings in the January transfer window after seeing their squad decimated by injuries in recent weeks.

After a strong start to the season, the Blades went on a six-game winless run before beating West Brom 2-0 at the weekend (29 October).

In midfield, they may be in particular need of reinforcements with Sander Berge constantly linked with a move away from Bramall Lane.

The 24-year-old has less than two years left to run on his Sheffield United contract and has been a standout performer this season before his recent injury.

Reijnders‘ contract at AZ expires in the summer of 2025 and the club will want to keep hold of him after his standout campaign.

The former Netherlands youth international has scored five times and provided six assists in 23 games across all competitions this term, including three goals in the Europa Conference League.

He moved to the club from PEC Zwolle as a 19-year-old and has now played 97 senior games for AZ, chipping in with 20 goal contributions.

In other news, Crystal Palace and Leicester City have set their sights on signing a Sheffield United star.
