Sources: Sheffield United set to sign Man City star James McAtee after medical passed

James McAtee passed a medical at Sheffield United on Tuesday ahead of a loan move from Man City, sources have told Football Insider.

The 19-year-old has been given the green light to leave the Etihad this season in search of first-team football.

Sheffield United are putting the finishing touches on a move and an announcement is expected in the next 24 hours.

Multiple Premier League and Championship clubs have expressed an interest in signing the midfielder.

City want their player to be guaranteed game time at his loan club.

McAtee has made five first-team appearances for Pep Guardiola’s side since his debut against Wycombe Wanderers last September.

However, there is limited opportunities for him at the Etihad this year and the club have decided a loan move is best for his development.

The centre-midfielder signed a new contract with the Cityzens in February, tying him down to the Premier League champions until the end of June 2026.

McAtee has contributed 27 goals and 19 assists in 52 appearances for City’s under-23s.

He has represented England’s under-18s, under-20s and under-21s.

Sheffield United have been in the market for an attacking, central midfielder to replace Morgan Gibbs-White.

Gibbs-White has returned to Wolves following an impressive spell with the Blades.

The Championship club have already signed one Man City player during this summer’s transfer window.

Midfielder Tommy Doyle has moved to Bramall Lane on a season-long loan deal.
