Dean Smith is confident Keinan Davis’ value will soar at Aston Villa this season and he’ll be worth £15million next year, Football Insider understands.

Davis scored his first goal in almost 20 months in the 6-1 League Cup hammering of Crewe Alexandra last night as he delivered a man-of-the-match performance.

A Villa has told Football Insider that Smith is convinced he can help turn the 21-year-old into a genuine matchwinner at Premier League level.

The manager insisted upon Davis remaining at Villa Park this summer after multiple offers from clubs keen to take him on loan this season.

As revealed by Football Insider, Smith pulled the plug on the forward’s departure after six Championship clubs – QPR, Huddersfield, Fulham, Sheffield Wednesday, Swansea City and Preston North End – tabled loan offers for him before the window shut earlier this month.

There is confidence that the ex-Brentford and Walsall boss can harness the striker’s talent to the point where his value will continue to grow and he will be worth £15million before the campaign ends.

Davis spearheaded the attack against Crewe in his 46th appearance for the Midlands giants as he netted his fourth goal, which have been supplemented by four assists.

He is set to drop back down to the bench as an alternative to first-choice striker Wesley Moraes for Saturday’s Premier League trip to Crystal Palace.

In other Aston Villa news, Whelan has claimed the club’s player are in awe of new signing who ‘they love in the dressing room’.
