Sources: Steve Cooper tells friends he expects Nottingham Forest sack soon
Steve Cooper expects to be sacked soon by Nottingham Forest following the club’s recent slump, sources have told Football Insider.
A well-placed source has told Football Insider that the 43-year-old has told friends he is “aware of the whispers” about his position.
His fears come amid a run of just one win in 10 Premier League matches – including the 1-0 home defeat against Everton on Saturday (2 December).
Cooper has previously twice come close to losing his job at Forest – in September 2022 and the spring of this year.
However, it is believed that this time there is a growing sense that the end of his time at the City Ground is near.
Sources say the ex-Swansea boss has let it be known to his inner circle that he doesn’t expect to be manager at Forest for much longer.
Despite the abysmal recent form, Forest still only sit 15th in the Premier League table – with Everton, Burnley and Sheffield United occupying the bottom three.
The Midlands club have won just three of 14 Premier League games this term and have dropped points against promoted Luton and Burnley, as well as crisis club Everton.
Cooper, who is under contract until June 2025, led Forest to safety last season after big-money spending from owner Evangelos Marinakis.
They finished 16th in the table despite sitting bottom in October 2022 – when the Welshman was handed a new contract at the club.

But this season, Marinakis is eyeing a return on his investment and Football Insider revealed on 30 November that he is targeting a top-ten Premier League finish this season as pressure grows on Cooper.
Forest are next in action against Fulham on Wednesday (6 December).
